Job Description
The Epidemiologist, under the supervision of the Georgia Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance Coordinator, will be responsible for collaborating with the Georgia Department of Education (GA-DOE) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention/Adolescent Health through School-Based HIV/STD Prevention and School-Based Surveillance program to conduct two surveys the Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) and the School Health Profile (Profile) as well as provide analytical data support to the Georgia Tobacco Use Prevention Program by analyzing and disseminating tobacco-related data available within the Georgia Department of Public Health such as the Georgia Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance Survey (GA-BRFSS), YRBS and the Profile survey.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop partnerships and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
- Collaborate with stakeholders and partners
- Coordinate meetings with various stakeholders
- Standardize data collection tool based on CDC guidelines
- Conduct and monitor School-Based surveys (YRBS and Profiles)
- Submit data to CDC based on Guidelines
- Review, Edit and Receive weighted data from CDC related to YRBS and the Profiles
- Analyze, prepare and disseminate epidemiologic products (scientific manuscripts, abstracts, reports, fact sheets and info graphics)
- Work with researchers requesting YRBS and the Profile data sets
- Present findings to stakeholders and at scientific conferences
- Prepare Annual epidemiologic reports
- Assist in writing and reporting to federal funders
Minimum Qualifications
- Doctorate degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Biostatistics or a closely related field from an accredited college or university AND One year of experience performing epidemiologic work or work in a closely related field OR
- One year at the lower level (HCP181) or position equivalent OR
- Master’s degree in Public Health or a closely related field from an accredited college or university AND Four years of experience performing epidemiologic work or work in a closely related field OR
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university AND Five years of experience performing epidemiologic work or work in a closely related field.
Preferred Qualifications
- 5 years’ experience working as a public health epidemiologist.
- Advanced skills in the use of SAS and SAS Callable SUDAAN software for performing data analysis
- Experience in using large administrative datasets
- Team player – ability to work well with people with different background and skill set
- Possess people skill to collaborate and engage with several partners across the state
