Join the RSPH Student Engagement Team and Scholars in Action for Fuel Up for Finals! Take a break, grab a hot beverage, and make a holiday card for one of our community partners. Hot cocoa, hot cider, tea, and coffee will be provided while supplies last. Registration is not required for this event. 


2023 International Conference, UNC American Mock World Health Organization

UNC’s Chapter of American Mock World Health Organization has kicked off its school year! If you are interested in global health, public health writing, networking, public speaking skills, or analyzing a global issue, our annual International Conference is the perfect event for you!

The International Conference will begin on April 14, 2023, and end on April 16, 2023, at UNC-Chapel Hill, and the event will be focused on the theme of Planetary Health and the Human Condition. More details on the conference theme can be found in the theme guide link below. Registration is already open, and early registration ends on January 20, 2023. I highly recommend registering for the International Conference during this early registration period because the lowest registration price will only be offered during this time!

Film Screening Event, Emory Chapter of Nurses for Sexual and Reproductive Health

The Emory Chapter of Nurses for Sexual and Reproductive Health (NSRH) will be hosting a film screening of the HBO documentary, “The Janes,” on Wednesday, November 30th at 6pm in the CNR Auditorium. Following the film, there will be a panel discussion featuring former Jane, Patricia Novick, as well as Kwajelyn Jackson, Executive Director of Feminist Women’s Health Center.


Networking November, Georgia Public Health Association & SORT

The Office of Career Development, Georgia Public Health Association, and Student Outbreak and Response Team are hosting multiple networking and career development events this month. Next, on Wednesday 11/16 from 6-8pm, the Georgia Public Health Association will host a State and Local Government Networking Night in the Klamon Room. On Thursday, 11/17 from 6-8pm, SORT will host a 20th Anniversary Event in the CNR auditorium and plaza. Students are encouraged to attend.


Chair’s Chat, Department of Epidemiology

Diabetes and COVID-19: A Bi-directional Relationship – Webinar

Join us for GCDTR’s next seminar series presentation hosted by the Design and Evaluation for Equity Core, featuring a talk by Jessica Harding, PhD. Dr. Harding is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery/Medicine at Emory University. She is an epidemiologist with extensive experience in conducting chronic disease research at population and system levels in both academic and government settings. She received her PhD from Monash University, Melbourne, Australia, in 2016, and completed a post-doctoral research fellowship at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention where her research focused on describing population-level trends in diabetes and related complications in the United States. At Emory, Dr. Harding is working on improving data collection and quality related to kidney disease and transplantation as a member of the Transplant Health Services and Outcomes Research Program. Dr Harding also has interest in health equity research and the role of social determinants of health as it pertains to people with diabetes and kidney disease.

Dr. Harding is a recipient of a Pilot & Feasibility Program Grant from the Georgia Center for Diabetes Translation Research at Emory University. In her project, she is examining the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the diabetes care processes within a large integrated healthcare system.

Suicide Prevention Training for RSPH Students, Emory Mental Health Alliance

Emory Counseling & Psychological Services offers QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) training. It is intended to teach individuals how to recognize warning signs, and provides guidelines on how to ask the difficult question about suicidal thoughts, persuade individuals to get help, and refer individuals to local and national resources for support. This zoom training will take place on Wednesday, November 9 from 6-8pm. Please click here to register!


Ways to be Welcoming: Mental Health, Friends, and Boundaries – Online Workshop

Counseling and Psychological Services, along with Student Body Emory, presents an informative discussion on ways to be inclusive with respect to mental illness. They will go over ways to support others struggling with mental illness while also establishing healthy boundaries. Join us for an hour long discussion with time for questions all surrounding themes of mental illness and ways to be supportive of the self and others. This event will take place at 5pm on November 29, 2022. Please click here to register. 


Webinar, CSTE Opportunities for Students

The CSTE Early Career Professionals subcommittee is hosting a webinar entitled “CSTE Opportunities for Students” on Friday, November 4 at 3:00 pm EDT. Registration is required to attend this webinar.

This webinar will focus on CSTE opportunities and resources available for epidemiology students, including fellowship programs, the learning platform CSTE Learn, the Mentorship Program, various subcommittees and the CSTE Annual Conference. This is a great opportunity to find out how to get engaged at CSTE and have your questions answered. This webinar will include:

  • Describing the program components and application process for the Applied Epidemiology Fellowship (AEF) and the Applied Public Health Informatics Fellowship (APHIF)
  • Reviewing the CSTE Learn online training platform and available courses and resources
  • Highlighting subcommittees at CSTE, including the Early Career Professionals Subcommittee
  • Discussing the CSTE Mentorship Program
  • Discussing what to expect at the CSTE Annual Conference

Collaborations in Global Health Research, The Halle Institute for Global Research

The Halle Institute is excited to host a panel discussion on “Collaborations in Global Health Research,” featuring Fulbright Distinguished Chairs Guilherme de Sousa Reibeiro (Brazil) and Hye Jun Park (Korea). They will discuss their research in Brazil and Malawi, some of the challenges they have faced, and focus on the importance of building and maintaining collaborations with local partners.
