Summer Program for Advancing Research Knowledge (SPARK), Atlanta VA

SPARK is a nine-week research program at VA Atlanta. Students work with VA physicians or lab-based researchers, conduct research, network with peers, and attend lectures from specialists. This year, 2 students from Emory University will be accepted to the Summer 2025 Cohort.

SPARK runs from May 27 to August 1, 2025, with a mandatory orientation day included. Work hours are 9 AM to 5 PM at Atlanta VA. Full on-site presence required for program eligibility.

Other Requirements:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Must have prior research experience.
  • Must be in good academic standing. 
  • Must be either a medical school student, graduate student in a STEM program, and/or a Nursing graduate student.
  • Meet NIH’s Underrepresented Minority Criteria.
