Dear African Women

My African identity is a part of my identity that I value immensely. It has often times been a source of pride and given me a sense of belonging. Thus, the purpose of this project was to highlight the different ways that African cultures may influence and promote self love and self appreciation for women. Often times African cultures are depicted as violent and repressive towards women, and though there may be some truth to it, I hope to highlight the different aspects of the many cultures that empower women. The women filmed in the project came mainly from West and East Africa. The countries represented are a mix of predominantly Christian and Muslim countries.
