Skin

My mother always told me, “skin is the largest organ in the body, you MUST take care of it.” However, I wasn’t comfortable with my melanin, I did not like it when my brown skin glowed amongst the sun, so I always put on the bare minimum of lotion, afraid of my skin glistening. Nor did I like the sun; I was afraid of getting too dark, so I hid from it. Now, I’ve learned to love my skin. Now when I get ready in the morning I lather my skin in the thickest lotion and never shy away from the sun in fear of getting darker because I know my skin and the sun are friends. A unique and special bond between nature and blackness.
