Followup on Dr. Pendley’s Nailbed Post

This is a piece of suture foil that is used to repair a partial nail avulsion.  Remember, you can use non adherent gauze or suture foil to lift the nail fold off of the nail bed.

    If you suture the avulsed nail or other object into the nail fold when are you having the patient follow up for suture removal?

  1. I discussed the case with plastics and I had the patient followup within 5 days. I have reached out to a plastic’s attending to see if I can find out the appropriate followup suture removal time, because I am not sure.

    So the purpose of that is to hold open the fold until the new nail is established?

    Yes, it lifts the eponychium off the germinal matrix. With regards to followup, I’d say within a week plastic surgery followup is a safe bet.
