Epi’s Got Talent, October 1st

Calling all musicians, comedians, performers, people with random fun tricks that they want to show off! 

You are cordially invited to submit your audition for our next RSGA epi rep event –  Epi’s Got Talent! 

Preliminary auditions will occur virtually with the final live show occurring October 1st, 2021 in the Rollins auditorium from 4-5:50 pm EST.  During this time, we will have 5 selected finalist acts performing where, similar to America’s Got Talent, three surprise guest judges will provide commentary and vote for the winner of this year’s top talent of epi!

In order to submit your preliminary audition and be considered for a finalist spot, please submit information about your act and a video through this form (link to formby September 24th, 2021 at 11:59pm EST.  Acts must be radio and public television appropriate.  Finalists will be notified by 9/27 and must be available to attend and perform during the live show on 10/1.  

Performing not your style? No worries! Please come support your performers!! The live show will be open to the public to attend in-person with information on sign ups being sent out next week.

Harvard Educational Program on Cancer Prevention and Control

The Harvard Educational Program in Cancer Prevention and Control is an NCI-funded T32 program to train the next generation of scientists in transdisciplinary approaches to cancer prevention and control. The program includes both pre-doctoral and post-doctoral training options. 

Applications for post-doctoral candidates are due on November 1. Pre-doctoral candidates apply to our Population Health Sciences PhD Program and are selected from among those admitted to the PhD program—applications due December 1. We have a strong commitment to diversity, and encourage applicants from diverse backgrounds.

REAL Program Evaluation Position, Division of Scientific Education and Professional Development at the CDC

The Division of Scientific Education and Professional Development at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, Georgia has an opening for an Evaluation Assistant (REAL student position).

DSEPD’s mission is to improve health outcomes through a competent, sustainable, and empowered public health workforce. Our programs include fellowships and student programs, training and continuing education for health professionals, and activities for students and teachers interested in learning about public health. The Evaluation Assistant will work with the DSEPD Evaluation Lead and team to support evaluations of DSEPD programs. This position will allow the Evaluation Assistant to gain experience with the CDC Framework for Program Evaluation, data collection and analysis, and reporting evaluation findings.

DSEPD’s Science Office intranet website provides DSEPD staff and fellows with important information and resources to support program evaluation, quality science, and adherence to government regulations. However, users often have difficulty finding the relevant information they need. The Evaluation Assistant’s primary project will be conducting usability testing to help us better organize the website. Specifically, the Evaluation Assistant will work with Science Office staff to complete a content inventory of the site. With mentor support and guidance, the assistant will then develop and implement a card sorting study. This study will involve conducting interviews with DSEPD staff and fellows. The assistant will analyze interview data and report study findings, including recommendations for how to improve the website organization.

The Evaluation Assistant will also support an evaluation study of DSEPD Fellowship Outcomes, examining data on fellowship graduation processes, as well as the jobs and job settings of our graduated fellows. Specifically, the Evaluation Assistant will support review and examination of existing fellowship graduation data, data extraction and abstraction, data analysis, and reporting.  

Depending on time and interest, the assistant will have the opportunity to work on other projects focused on evaluation of workforce development training programs. Specific activities may include:

·         Conducting online surveys in SurveyMonkey

·         Data analysis and reporting for fellowship surveys, course evaluations, and other evaluation activities

·         Qualitative data analysis (interviews or focus group discussions)

·         Data visualization for quantitative and qualitative data

·         Literature reviews

·         Assisting with reports and other documents

We are looking for an applicant with the ability to work well with a diverse group of people, strong oral and written communication skills, attention to detail, flexibility, and a passion for learning. Program evaluation experience or coursework is preferred, but not required.

Trinity Health Fellowship – Community Health & Well-Being – System Office, Livonia, MI   
Community Health & Well-Being’s (CHWB) purpose is to promote optimal health for poor and vulnerable populations and communities we serve by connecting social and clinical care, addressing social needs, dismantling systemic racism and reducing health inequities. The CHWB Fellowship position will provide an opportunity for a recent graduate (i.e. epidemiology, program evaluation or related field) to gain work experience in a rapid paced and dynamic field at the intersection of healthcare and public health. The successful candidate will lead and support CHWB initiatives at the system, regional, and/or local levels.  

The ideal candidate should be able to perform the following tasks:  

  • Design an epidemiologic study to address a health problem
  • Demonstrate an understanding of study design and the advantages and limitations of each design type
  • Design or implement a surveillance system
  • Collect health data from appropriate sources (e.g. case interviews, medical records, vital statistics records, laboratory reports, or pathology reports)
  • Create a database for a health data set

Survey Manager, NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene

The Research and Evaluation Unit in the HIV/AIDS Prevention Program (Bureau of Hepatitis, HIV/AIDS, and Sexually Transmitted Infections) has an opening for a Survey  Manager  (Civil Service Title: City Research Scientist II).

Under the direction of the Senior Analyst, and in collaboration with other Unit, Program and Bureau staff, the Survey Manager will contribute to process and outcome evaluation and scientific research activities for a dynamic portfolio of high priority projects aimed to End the Epidemic of HIV/AIDS in New York City. 

DUTIES WILL INCLUDE BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO:

• Coordinate the development and implementation of the scientific research surveys in the HIV/AIDS Prevention Program (e.g., Sexual Health Survey (SHS).

• Coordinate online-based operations for select high-impact HIV/AIDS prevention scientific research and evaluation projects including venue engagement, staffing, protocol adherence, and ensuring participant confidentiality and epidemiological data security.

• Identify existing validated scientific research survey questions to meet NYC DOHMH program needs and aid in the development of new scientific research survey questions.

• Conduct formative scientific research with community groups applying principles of community-based participatory scientific research.

• Maintain study files including updates and tracking changes to scientific research questionnaires.

• Maintain an inventory and matrix of scientific research survey questions.

• Organize and maintain vendor reports an memos related to epidemiological data collection.

• Ensure and document the translation of scientific research study materials into all study languages with quality controls.

• Develop human subjects scientific research protocols for Institutional Review Board applications, and track progress of submissions.

• Develop training materials for epidemiological data collectors and attend trainings in-person as needed.

• Lead testing of programmed scientific research questionnaires and review questionnaires for accuracy and ensure the most current versions are being used.

• Review weekly epidemiological data reports and track study progress.

• Monitor project deliverables to ensure they are completed on schedule.

• Assess any issues and suggest solutions to team leads.

• Participate in core unit activities, including epidemiological data monitoring, cleaning, managing, analyzing and displaying process and outcomes data using analytic software packages (SAS).

• Contribute to reports, presentations, peer reviewed journals and scientific research papers for public dissemination.

• Support other Bureau projects as needed, including providing consultation for other scientific research surveys.

• Participate in DOHMH efforts to promote health equity and racial justice.

Minimum Qual Requirements

1.  For Assignment Level I (only physical, biological and environmental sciences and public health) A master’s degree from an accredited college or university with a specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological or environmental science or in public health.
To be appointed to Assignment Level II and above, candidates must have:
1. A doctorate degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological, environmental or social science and one year of full-time experience in a responsible supervisory, administrative or research capacity in the appropriate field of specialization; or
2. A master’s degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological, environmental or social science and three years of responsible full-time research experience in the appropriate field of specialization; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to “1” or “2” above. However, all candidates must have at least a master’s degree in an appropriate field of specialization and at least two years of experience described in “2” above. Two years as a City Research Scientist Level I can be substituted for the experience required in “1” and “2” above.

Appointments to this position are subject to a minimum probationary period of one year.

Preferred Skills

• Preferred candidates will have strong analytical, organizational and communication skills.

• Have experience in developing and implementing public health surveys, scientific research surveys/questionnaires, especially those conducted among communities of color and sexual minorities.

• Have a strong interest in testing scientific research survey methods for public health surveys.

• Have experience working collaboratively with others to implement epidemiological data collection, including vendor management and collaboration with stakeholders from multiple parts of the organization to reach consensus.

Graduate Research Assistant

Graduate Research Assistant, The Center for Global Safe Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (Moe Research Group)

Project Summary:  The Center for Global Safe Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (CGSW) is seeking Graduate Research Assistants (GRA) with strong data skills to support multiple COVID-19 wastewater surveillance projects. Since August 2020, Our group has been conducting wastewater surveillance at Emory Campus (finished) and the city of Atlanta (ongoing). And we are proposing to extend our expertise to conduct wastewater surveillance in Dhaka Bangladesh and Accra Ghana. As the project expanding, we have increasing need for database management, data visualization (statistical plots, mapping), and analysis (including spatial analysis, transmission modeling, agent based model, results dashboard design), and manuscript writing.

Student Role:  Under the guidance of CGSW faculty and staff, the GRA will assist with database development, data management and analysis, data visualization, and publications.

Qualifications:  Applicants must have good knowledge of public health, statistics, and computer programming.  Skills: intermediate skill in R is required and knowledge about spatial analysis, agent based modeling, infectious disease transmission modeling, Rmarkdown, and R Shiny are preferred.

Serve as team member for FLHealthCHARTS, Florida Health Performs, data support and helping website users interpret results, creating reports using Logi Analytic software, providing GIS support (i.e. geocoding and mapping with ArcGIS) and providing support for publications such as, the State Health Assessment, the State Health Improvement Plan, and the Vital Statistics Annual Report.  The incumbent in this position is expected to coordinate the collection and monitoring performance indicators across divisions and county health departments for performance management and outcome assessment.  Familiarity with: Florida Department of Health programs and various data sets including: vital statistics, population, and services provided by the department will be beneficial.  Experience with Excel, Word, and Powerpoint is essential to perform the duties of this position.  The incumbent must also have previous experience with ARCGIS, Microsoft SQL, and statistical software (e.g., SAS or SPSS).
