Hispanic Leadership Development Fellowship, National Hispanic Medical Association

The Hispanic Leadership Development Fellowship Program is funded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Office of Minority Health. The fellowship is offering current graduate students and recent graduates a paid 9-month leadership opportunity to prepare for career opportunities within public health agencies and increase awareness and competency in health equity knowledge and practice.

The National Hispanic Medical Association (NHMA) Hispanic Leadership Development Fellowship (HLDF) is a 9-month, in-person, paid fellowship program that pairs current masters level students or recent graduates (must have graduated within past 2 years) with an HHS agency in the DC/Metropolitan area.  The program will run from September 1, 2025 – May 29, 2026.

Program Components:

  • Fellows will be paid a salary of $5,500 per month, for 9 months, working 40 hours per week
  • Health insurance including medical, dental and vision, will be provided during the fellowship duration
  • NHMA will only cover relocation travel costs associated with: 1) One round trip to and from the Washington, D.C. area, 2) Up to $575 and incidentals associated with one day of travel to and from D.C area.
  • Fellows will be responsible for securing housing.
  • Fellows will receive support from the NHMA Staff, host site mentors, and personal NHMA mentors
  • Fellows will be required to participate in virtual and experiential learning activities throughout the 9-month program
  • Fellows may have the opportunity to present their work at their Host Site placements & final projects to OMH and NHMA Leadership.

Criteria & Eligibility:

  • Current master’s level student or have a graduation date from a master’s program within 2 years
  • Strong interest in working in HHS
  • Must be able to relocate to Washington, D.C
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States
  • Must be a current NHMA Member (Student membership $20)

Various Full Time Positions, China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study at Wuhan University

The China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS) is a large-scale interdisciplinary research project jointly led by Wuhan University and Peking University. CHARLS provides highquality microdata representing households and individuals aged 45 and above in China. The sample covers over 10,000 households from 150 districts and counties, as well as 450 village-level units nationwide. CHARLS aims to promote interdisciplinary research on population aging and health issues, thereby providing a more scientific basis for the formulation and improvement of relevant policies in China. The study is recruiting the following positions domestically and internationally:

Postdoctoral Research Fellow

  • Wuhan University’s CHARLS team is recruiting three types of postdoctoral researchers: Hongyi Postdoctoral Fellows, Key-funded Postdoctoral Fellows, and Research Project Postdoctoral Fellows, all under Professor Yaohui Zhao. A distinguished scholar, Professor Zhao holds multiple academic roles at Wuhan University and Peking University. Postdocs will gain expertise in CHARLS data analysis, receive professional research guidance, and participate in team projects. Exceptional candidates may be recommended for long-term teaching or research positions at Wuhan University.
  • Application Requirements:
    • Applicants must hold a doctoral degree from well-known universities at home and abroad, or have passed the dissertation defense (limited to Hongyi Postdoctoral Fellows). Graduates with a research focus in applied microeconomics are preferred, while consideration will also be given to candidates in the fields of demography, sociology, and public health

Field Supervisor

  • Job Responsibilities:
    • Organize and implement field survey activities
    • Recruit, train, manage, and maintain survey interviewers
    • Coordinate with various levels of institutions at the survey sites.
    • Provide data analysis support for research conducted by the project team. Candidates proficient in data analysis software such as Stata or Python will be given preference
  • Qualifications:
    • A Master’s degree or higher is required, with a preference for majors in Economics, Sociology, or Management.

NAC Laboratory and Safety Sciences Training Fellowship, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

NAC is seeking a qualified and motivated candidate for a Laboratory Safety and Sciences Training

Fellowship focused on developing skills and experience in conducting research and evaluation of poliovirus laboratory biosafety, environmental and containment projects. The fellow will participate under the mentorship of NAC staff to develop skills and experience in design of scientific project proposals, protocols, and data collection tools; conduct biosafety studies in laboratory settings; validate and analyze data collected; and develop presentations, reports, and manuscripts to disseminate results for poliovirus containment implementation. Anticipated projects include participation in laboratory studies, development and implementation of innovative science agenda, data collection and analysis for biosafety and environmental studies, surveys, emergency response and planning activities, and communications products.

Critical Care Medicine Research Coordinator, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta

The Epidemiologist will support efforts to strengthen and coordinate surveillance and preparedness activities in response to the development of antimicrobial resistance (AR) in sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in the United States for the Combating Antimicrobial Resistant Gonorrhea and Other STIs (CARGOS) Team.  

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support the team lead with strategy development and implementation and oversee specialized activities within the AR-STI portfolio.
  • Identify and analyze STD public health issues and their impact on public policies or scientific studies or surveys through scientific literature and data reviews.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on STI surveillance and epidemiologic activities, including program process and outcome monitoring, and data management and analytics use.
  • Provide scientific advice and technical assistance on program operations to various public, private, and/or health-related agencies and organizations on surveillance and preparedness activities.
  • Support advanced data science applications and routine analyses of annual profile trends.
  • Analyze data and generate summaries and scientific reports.
  • Disseminate analytic findings including interactive dashboard applications, web materials, presentations at scientific and professional meetings, and publications in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Work collaboratively with other teams within the Division, Center, and across the agency.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Minimum experience of 5 years in planning, managing, and analyzing epidemiologic studies, surveillance and/or surveys relating to public health programs.
  • Familiarity with antimicrobial resistance and/or STIs.
  • Experience in managing, linking, and re-structuring aggregate and patient-level datasets using SAS, R, SQL, or similar platform.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated collaboration skills to work with diverse stakeholders including health departments, develop recommendations, and operationalize decisions.

CDC Biostatistics, Statistics, Mathematical Statistics for Respiratory Virus Epidemiology, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)/ORISE

CDC’s Coronavirus and Other Respiratory Viruses Division (CORVD) in the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases (NCIRD) is dedicated to development and advancement of biomedical research to “improve the health of people by preventing illness, disability, and death from respiratory viruses induced diseases through public health science and practice in the United States and globally”. The Biostatistics, Economics and Modeling (BEaM) Unit, works with epidemiologists and laboratory scientists in the Division’s four branches to adapt existing analytical methodology and develop new techniques for statistical analysis.

Research Project: The fellow will train with BEaM’s statisticians, economists, and modelers and collaborate with the branches in the Division in the area of study design and statistical analysis. The fellow will train in Mathematical Statistics, mentored by senior statisticians in BEaM and will collaborate with epidemiologists and laboratory scientists in CORVD’s four branches. The fellow will learn to apply Bayesian and frequentist analytical techniques, including conditional autoregressive random effects models and probabilistic multiplier models to estimate the burden of COVID-19, RSV, and other respiratory viruses in the United States. This will include collaborating with informatics specialists to automate processes. Various statistical methodologies, adapted from existing and newly developed methods, will be applied to explore the epidemiology and biological science of respiratory viruses, including examining and improving the understanding of viral interference between respiratory viruses. In addition to providing statistical analysis and modeling support, the fellow will gain hands-on experience in the areas of study design, data visualization, and the use of statistical software, as well as authoring and coauthoring publications.
