Biology Majors at Emory (BioME)

The Biology Majors at Emory (BioME) peer mentorship program is now in its third year. The mentorship program groups 3-4 first- and second-year mentees with third- and fourth-year biology major mentors. Mentees and mentors are groups based on shared interests and pursuits. Through small group meet-ups, mentees gain support with navigating course selection, academics, careers, and adjusting to life at Emory while mentors develop leadership skills. The program also brings together all participants to foster broader connection through large events like this year’s pumpkin carving party. The event was funded by the Biology Department and College Council, and BioME hopes to make this an annual tradition of the mentorship program and to invite faculty and their families next year.

In addition to the peer mentorship program, BioME continues to bring faculty and students together through small informal lunches (Lunch ‘n Learn) and coffee chats (Brews & BioME). Events to enrich student success like the Summer Opportunities Panel and Undergraduate Research Panel are held annually. The student-led organization also holds programs to encourage biology majors to volunteer and to build community outside the classroom. Two examples this academic year were crafting cards for hospitalized children and a night out at the Emory Planetarium.

BioME’s student leaders for the 2025-2026 academic year are Andrew Jung, Henry Spinella, Hannah Yin, Rosie Wu, Shoshana Leeds, Catie Schwartz, Enyu Liu, Alina Huang and Rohan Agrawal.
