Crisis and Creativity event celebrates Emory Libraries efforts during the pandemic

Emory Libraries recently held a virtual event for library friends and donors called, “Crisis and Creativity: Stories of Ingenuity from the Emory Libraries.”  The purpose of the event was to share stories of innovation and resilience from Emory Libraries’ staff responses to the pandemic, the remote work and learning environment, and the racial injustices we have seen in the last several months.

Sponsored by Advancement and Alumni Engagement and hosted by Dean Yolanda Cooper, the event featured presentations from a variety of speakers and included video demos and a short film by the DEI Committee.

“Our libraries’ staff began working from home and finding creative ways to convert in-person services, events, end exhibits to a virtual environment,” said Yolanda. “In addition to the stresses of the pandemic, we have seen numerous cases of racial injustice and our staff response has been moving and inspirational. I am very proud of my library colleagues.”

If you want to see the event in its entirety, click this link: https://youtu.be/Ypuvsfh8ZPg.

Special thanks go to the presenters and Maya Cody and Ayana Bohannon for coordinating such a terrific virtual event.

LITS selected to test required cybersecurity training

LITS Security has created a security awareness training module that will soon be required for all University staff and new employees. The course was created to ensure that all Emory University employees receive a baseline set of security training. We are asking that LITS employees take the training first as part of our testing plan and provide any feedback about mistakes that you may see, problems scoring the exam, etc. At this point we are not primarily looking for feedback about the content itself, though if you see something you think would be a good future enhancement, please let us know for future consideration. You can send feedback to security-training-feedback [at] emory [dot] onmicrosoft [dot] com.

The course will be available starting Tuesday, October 20. We would appreciate all feedback be completed by Monday, November 2. The course takes less than 30 minutes to complete.

You may access the course by doing the following:

  1. Go to https://elmprod9.emory.edu/
  2. Click on the “My Learning” tile.
  3. You should see a course titled “Emory Cybersecurity Awareness Training”
  4. Click the “Launch” button to open the course summary page.
  5. Click the “Launch” button again on the summary page to launch the course.

You can also expect to receive an automated email inviting you to take the course in the near future. There are exam questions spread throughout the course. In order for the course to be marked as complete, you must answer all of the exam questions correctly. Thank you for your time and feedback!

2020 Virtual LEAP! recap

photo of video screen capture

The service award videos were created by Cecilia Bolich. This image references the TV show DALLAS.

The 2020 virtual LEAP! event, held on September 24, was well-received by the nearly 300 LITS employees who tuned in. Friends and colleagues offered congratulations to those honored for outstanding service to Emory. LEAP! is typically a time to celebrate the end of the academic year together, mingle with co-workers, and enjoy a nice meal but with the COVID-19 restrictions the challenge for the PATH Committee was to energize LITS within the confines of Zoom. The result was a 70-minute salute to the people that make LITS great through their years of service or significant contributions that was as far from a typical Zoom meeting as humanly possible.

The event was filled with music and videos that highlighted popular and noteworthy events from the past years when our 150-plus Service Award honorees started at Emory. Mood rings and pet rocks? Check! Music that ranged from DJ Shadow to Captain and Tennille? We had that too. Did you know this year’s LITS service stretched back to the founding of Microsoft? Now you do!

LEAP! also featured 44 recipients of the LITS Significant Contribution Award (SCA), which covered the 16 months between May 1, 2019, and September 1, 2020, as well as degree recipients during the same period. SCA winners were awarded for their efforts in teamwork and collaboration, leadership, operational excellence / exceptional service, creativity and innovation, and campus and community relations categories.

If you missed the event, you can watch the video HERE.

Our event surveys are very important in helping us develop programming for the upcoming year. Of particular interest is a section specifically about the Significant Contribution Award, as we are continually evaluating the program to make employee recognition work for everybody.

You can take the survey HERE.

For a complete listing of the honorees, you can see the LEAP! event program HERE.

Thanks again for logging on to LEAP! in such great numbers and we on the PATH committee hope to see you again at our future programming.
