Christopher A. Snyder (PhD, 1994) Receives University of Oxford Research Fellowship

Christopher A. Snyder, Dean of the Shackouls Honors College at Mississippi State University and Professor of European History, recently received a research fellowship to travel to the University of Oxford. Snyder, a former Emory graduate student working under Tom Burns and Steve White, will examine possible links between Mississippi State’s first Rhodes Scholar and the title character of The Great Gatsby. Graduate Student Scott Libson Receives Support for Research

PhD Student Scott Libson has received support for his dissertation, currently titled “The Christianization of Capital: The Business of Mission Movement Fundraising, 1865-1929.” Lisbon was awarded the 2014 Lynn E. May Study Grant by the Southern Baptist Historical Library and Archives; the 2014 Columbia University Libraries Research Award by Columbia University; the 2014 Research Fellowship by the Presbyterian Historical Society; the 2014 Newberry Library Short Term Fellowship for Individual Research by the Newberry Library; and the 2014 Hagley Exploratory Research Grant by the Hagley Museum and Library to support his research.

Debjani Bhattacharyya (PhD student) Receives The History Project Research Grant

Debjani Bhattacharyya (PhD student) has been awarded The History Project Research Grant given by the History Project and the Joint Centre for History and Economics and the Institute of New Economic Thinking from Harvard-Camrbidge’s Centre for History and Economics.  Her research project is titled, “Risky Credit: The Commercial World of the Bay of Bengal from 1800 to 1940.”

Eckert Receives Waldo Gifford Leland Award

Astrid M. Eckert is the 2013 recipient of the Waldo Gifford Leland Award given by the Society of American Archivists (SAA) for her book, The Struggle for the Files: The Western Allies and the Return of German Archives after the Second World War, published by Cambridge University Press. The award will be presented at a ceremony during the Council of State Archivists and SAA Joint Annual Meeting in New Orleans, August 11-17, 2013.
