Informatics Epidemiologist, Rhode Island Department of Health

Position Description

This position will work within the Division of Preparedness, Response, Infectious Disease, and Emergency Medical Services, primarily in the Center for Acute Infectious Disease Epidemiology, but may work in the other program areas as needed. This position will have two areas of focus: surveillance of acute infectious diseases, and public health informatics.  Responsibilities will be split approximately 50/50 between the two areas.           

This position works under the administrative supervision of a superior with latitude for the exercise of initiative and independent judgement; assignments are made in broad outline and work is reviewed upon completion for results attained and conformance to established policies, objectives, provisions of law, rules and regulations. 

 

Duties and Responsibilities  

To analyze and document the impact of various chronic and infectious disease processes on the population of the state and/or communities, as well as on other specific subpopulations at risk; to monitor and analyze the incidence, prevalence and determinants of disease such as environment, genetics, lifestyle and access to medical care; to identify effective health promotion and disease prevention strategies; to design and/or implement health promotion and disease prevention interventions; and to do related work as required. 

 

Qualifications 

Knowledge, Skills, and Capacities 

A thorough knowledge of descriptive and analytical epidemiologic techniques, research and evaluation methodologies, and biostatistics as described in national standards such as the Council for State and Territorial Epidemiologists’ Applied Epidemiology Competencies; strong written and oral communication and presentation skills; the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external partners; and related capacities and abilities.

Educations and Experience

Possession of a Master of Public Health, a Master of Science in Epidemiology, or a master’s degree in a related health field with specialization in the area of epidemiology.

Graduate Research Assistant – Data Manager, RSPH

Role Description

The Lopman Lab team conducts research globally and in the United States with research targeted at diarrheal diseases, specifically those caused by rotavirus and norovirus. More recently, this research has also focused on COVID-19. We employ a range of approaches including field studies, statistical analysis, and dynamic mathematical modeling to address public health policy relevant research questions.

We are seeking a Graduate Research Assistant to work on a project examining social mixing patterns that are relevant to transmission of COVID-19 in nursing homes. The project will collect and analyze social mixing patterns of workers in several nursing homes in the Atlanta area in order to better parameterize infectious disease models, and thus evaluate COVID-19 interventions.

The GRA will assist with data collection and management in REDCap. The candidate must reside in the Atlanta area to assist with data collection and the schedule is approximately 20 hours per week.

 

Qualifications

  • Proficient in REDCap.
  • Ability to work well independently and efficiently.
  • Self-motivation and a high level of responsibility to complete tasks in a timely manner and make significant progress with limited supervision from doctoral student mentors.
  • Attention to detail and time management skills.
  • Data management skills.

Position Description

This position is a mission critical occupation and is responsible for analyzing public health programs, policies and procedures to ensure that Health Resources and Services Administration meets its mission, goals and objectives.

As a HRSA Public Health Analyst at the GS-9 level, you will serve as a point of contact for information about public health program evaluation activities.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assisting in program evaluation and the measurement of program outcomes.
  • Performing special projects to analyze and/or identify specific concerns or conditions of relevance and importance to the mission and activities of the center.
  • Analyzing public health legislation, regulations, executive directives, and Departmental policy issues to determine their relevance to the organization’s plans, programs, and activities.
  • Developing components of short-term and long-range plans and proposals and integrating them in the organization’s long-range strategic plan.
  • Coordinating agency, department, and/or government wide goal setting efforts. 

 

Eligibility Requirements

You must be a recent graduate to qualify for this program, as defined below: 

  • Completed all requirements for an associates, bachelors, masters, professional, doctorate, vocational, or technical degree or certificate from an accredited educational institution, with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher, on or after October 5, 2018.
  • Be a veteran who received their degree, with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher, on or after October 5, 2014 while on active duty service and were unable to apply for jobs until their recent discharge on or after October 5, 2018.

 

Qualification Requirements 

Basic Requirements for all Public Health Program Specialist Series, 0685 positions require that you demonstrate specialized experience in each of the following five competencies:

  1. Knowledge of organizational, operational, and programmatic concepts and practices applied by public, private, or nonprofit agencies and organizations engaged in public health or other health-related activities.
  2. Knowledge of the methods, processes, and techniques used to develop and deliver public health or health-related programs in State and local settings.
  3. Knowledge of a specialized public health program.
  4. Knowledge of, and skill in, the application of administrative or analytical methods and techniques necessary for working within the framework of a public health or related organization and carrying out specific program functions.
  5. Skill in oral and written communications, gathering and conveying information, making oral presentations, and preparing reports, correspondence, and other written materials.

Student Assistant, CDC

Opportunity Description

The CDC Prion and Public Health Office (within the Division of High-Consequence Pathogens and Pathology, National Center for Emerging and Zoonotic Infectious Diseases) is looking for assistance from an MPH (epidemiology) student who has finished the first year of study. This is a part-time, paid position (not work-study) that will include helping with epidemiologic projects through data entry, literature searches, and SAS analysis.

Epidemiologist II, Georgia DPH

Epidemiologist II (Oral Health), Maternal and Child Health Epidemiology Unit, Georgia Department of Public Health, Atlanta, GA

 

Job Description

As part of the Maternal and Child Health Epidemiology Unit of the Georgia Department of Public Health’s Epidemiology Section, the Oral Health Epidemiologist is responsible for all oral health data collection and management for the Oral Health Program.  The Epidemiologist conducts routine functions based on Oral Health Surveillance protocols related to survey implementation, data collection, and data analysis using epidemiologic methods. Examples of survey implementation include the 3rd Grade Basic Screening Survey and the Head Start Basic Screening Survey. The Epidemiologist will be responsible for disseminating oral health data to internal and external stakeholders in various settings (e.g., conference presentations, scientific posters, programmatic meetings, data summaries, fact sheets, and burden reports). Pay range for this position is $53,600 annually. 

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Public Health or a closely related field from an accredited college or university AND Two years of experience performing epidemiologic work or work in a closely related field OR
  • Bachelor’s degree in any field from an accredited college or university AND Three years of experience performing epidemiologic work or work in a closely related field OR
  • Two years at the lower level (HCP180) or position equivalent.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience analyzing data from complex sampling design
  • Experience with survey implementation
  • Experience with data management (from data collection thru dissemination)
  • Experiment with data dissemination (e.g., surveillance reports, data summaries)

Women’s Reproductive Health Fellowship, CDC

A research opportunity is available in the Division of Reproductive Health (DRH) Women’s Health and Fertility Branch within the National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (NCCDPHP) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, Georgia.

The selected participant will train and engage with a multi-state surveillance effort to examine impacts of social determinants of health (SDOH) and health inequities among women and infants. Under the guidance of a mentor, the participant will train while developing professional skills in the following: project coordination, public health, epidemiology, complex survey design and analysis, multiple data systems in maternal and infant health, and attending webinars and seminars, and conferences.

The learning objectives and activities for this appointment include:

  • To develop project coordination skills for analytical projects
  • To develop skills for analyzing complex survey data using appropriate statistical software
  • To develop technical assistance skills on epidemiology, data analysis and translation
  • To develop a working knowledge of social determinants of health

 

Qualifications 

The qualified candidate should have received a master’s or doctoral degree in one of the relevant fields. Degree must have been received within five years of the appointment start date.

Coalition Support Intern, Task Force for Global Health

Organization Description

The Task Force for Global Health is an independent, 501(c)3, nongovernmental organization based in Atlanta, GA, USA, with a field office in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Our programs focus on eliminating diseases and protecting populations. Since our founding, we only take on problems we know can be solved, and we do it through powerful, global collaborations because we are in the business of solving problems. Until now, there has been no established forum to promote promising practices across the many and varied types of health campaigns. To address these gaps, The Task Force for Global Health has launched the Health Campaign Effectiveness Coalition with support from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

The Coalition is a cross-campaign coalition that fosters learning and systems change. It brings together country leaders, donors, multilateral organizations and NGOs from several large-scale health campaign domains, as well as specialists in health systems, ethics, and health economics. The Coalition will support research that fosters the testing and replication of evidence-based campaign practices. It will also develop guidelines and approaches so campaigns can improve collaboration with the health systems of countries.

 

Duties and Responsibilities 

The student will serve as a REAL intern with the Health Campaign Effectiveness program. Student will assist in various coalition-support activities including but not limited to:

  • Support HCE Coalition work group(s) activities, such as communication to work group members, planning and supporting meetings, following up on work group action items, and facilitating coordination
  • Assist in managing website resources to fulfill the coalition’s knowledge management strategy/focus
  • Contribute towards the planning and facilitation of a (virtual) international conference to convene the HCE Coalition
  • Contribute to literature review and synthesis activities

This role for the student will allow them to work hands on with members of the team such as the Communications Manager, Project Manager, Sr Associate Director for the Coalition, Sr Associate Director for Implementation Research, the Director, along with members of a global health coalition.

 

This position is remote eligible and is open to REAL and non-REAL students.
