The Data Analyst will manage the collection, analysis, reporting and storage of data from a variety of platforms and sources.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist sectors in program evaluation and reporting guided by SNAP-Ed Guidance, SNAP-Ed Framework and state program reports
  • Prepare unduplicated direct nutrition education counts and participating qualifying site location reports for SNAP-Ed monthly, quarterly and annual reports.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly SNAP-Ed reports
  • Assist with the development of the SNAP-Ed annual report and EARS report
  • Oversee data cleaning, coupling, analyses and complex survey analysis using appropriate software data resources (e.g. RStudio, SAS, Qualtrics, SPSS, REDCap, DataFax, MAXQDA)
  • Prepare data visualizations as requested
  • Review and ensure accuracy of SNAP-Ed sector reports by external evaluators, provide suggestions for improvement and develop summary reports
  • Manage data to provide information for program decision making and prioritize evaluation and data information needs
  • Interpret data, analyze results and provide ongoing reports to sector leaders.
  • Assist in streamlining data collection tools and processes using technology
  • Develop databases and implement data collection systems, data analytics and other strategies that optimize statistical efficiency and quality for quantitative and qualitative data collection
  • Acquire data from primary or secondary data sources as needed and maintain databases/data systems.
  • Identify, analyze, and interpret trends or patterns in complex data sets.
  • Locate and define new data process improvement opportunities.
  • Provide professional development for HealthMPowers leadership and staff on program evaluation and appropriate data strategies.
  • Maintain resource usage database and provide monthly reports to sector leadership
  • Ensure accurate collection and reporting of site use of program resources.
  • Collect, summarize and file staff program delivery documentation
  • Oversee the implementation of any new data software (e.g. PEARS)

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree in Public Health preferred
  • Experience with statistical packages like SAS, SPSS, RStudio required
  • Advanced MS Excel proficiency
  • Passionate about data and analyzing business needs

Disaster Epidemiology Fellowship, CDC

Position Description

A research opportunity is currently available with the Division of Environmental Health Science and Practice (DEHSP) of the National Center for Environmental Health (NCEH) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, Georgia.

The Health Studies Section within CDC’s NCEH aims to reduce the negative public health consequences of environmental health disasters and emerging hazards by responding to natural and technological disasters, investigating outbreaks with suspected environmental or toxic etiology, and conducting applied epidemiologic studies to characterize health effects of environmental health disasters and emerging hazards. The Health Studies Section also provides technical assistance and expertise to state, tribal, local, and territorial (STLT) public health agencies, by request, on disaster epidemiology, including the Community Assessment for Public Health Emergency Response (CASPER); delivers trainings on disaster epidemiology; and develops strategies to prevent or reduce disaster-related morbidity and mortality.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the guidance of a team of disaster epidemiologists, the selected participant will be involved in the following training opportunities:

  • Contribute to activities within the Disaster Epidemiology Community of Practice (DECoP)
  • Learn to coordinate and manage DECoP quarterly webinars, including collaborating with staff in organizing speakers and providing technical assistance to DECoP membership
  • Learn Microsoft Office SharePoint by building out and increasing the usability of the DECoP online forum SharePoint site
  • Gain experience in communication by participating in the generation of communication materials for DECoP members, including bi-monthly newsletters
  • Gain knowledge about how CDC builds public health capacity for preparing for, responding to, and recovering from natural and human-induced disasters and emergencies by participating in technical assistance, trainings, response, and/or exercises
  • Learn about data collection, entry, management, analysis, and dissemination for epidemiological assessments (e.g., CASPER) and public health surveillance
  • Collaborate with staff on routine, scheduled, and emergency surveillance responsibilities using poison control center data
  • Improve presentation and oral communication skills by presenting on their research activities at Section meetings at least once per year

Qualifications 

The qualified candidate should have received a master’s or doctoral degree in one of the relevant fields, or be currently pursuing one of the degrees and will reach completion by August 2020. Degree must have been received within five years of the appointment start date.

Preferred Skills

  • Training or experience in disaster epidemiology or emergency response
  • Familiarity and/or interest in learning about disaster preparedness, response, and recovery
  • Ability to collaborate with a multi-disciplinary group of CDC scientists, as well as with state, tribal, local, and territorial public health partners
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with synthesizing/summarizing information
  • Experience with EpiInfo 7 and SharePoint

Graduate Research Assistant for National COVID-19 Survey, RSPH

Role Description

The Hubert Department of Global Health at Emory University’s Rollins School of Public Health is looking to recruit two Graduate Research Assistants to perform data management, cleaning, and analyses for a national-level of COVID-19 related beliefs, practices, and attitudes under the direction of Dr. Robert Bednarczyk, Assistant Professor of Global Health and Epidemiology. This is a paid REAL position from August 2020 – May 2021. The position will require approximately 10-15 hours commitment per week.

Research Assistant for Qualitative Project, BSHE Department

Opportunity Description

We are looking for two MPH-level students to conduct qualitative analyses on a project examining refugee women’s access to and experience of using sexual and reproductive health services in metropolitan Atlanta. The students will be responsible for creating summative memos and coding 27 interview transcripts using MAXQDA. We expect that this work will take approximately 20 hours per student. Prior coursework in and experience with qualitative analyses is required.

Graduate Assistant, Region IV Public Health Training Center / RSPH

Description 

The Region-IV Public Health Training Center (R-IV PHTC), funded by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), has an opening for a graduate assistant. The mission of the R-IV PHTC is to be a learning community that will strengthen the current and future public health workforce, expose public health students to the value of working in underserved areas, and advocate for public health systems and policies. While the R-IV PHTC offers student field placements with other agencies, this position would be working as a graduate assistant with the R-IV PHTC team at the Emory RSPH.

Responsibilities

The selected graduate assistant will be responsible for data entry and processing and will assist the R-IV PHTC team (including staff working on training, needs assessments, field placements, communications and evaluation) with the management of the R-IV PHTC’s program.

Specific tasks may include, but are not limited to, assisting various members of the Central Office team with:

  • Data collection and management
  • Preparation and implementation of in-person and online trainings
  • Summary reports of training and field placement evaluations
  • Communications efforts such as newsletter, websites, social media, or e-blasts
  • Training needs assessment activities, including environmental scans of training needs and resources
  • Analysis of state-wide needs assessment data and workforce development plans

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will be an MPH student willing to start the position in summer and continue through the 2020-2021 academic year. Candidates should have excellent organizational and communication skills, including both oral and written skills. Candidates must also have excellent computer skills, specifically in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Google Apps. Experience with Mail Chimp, Survey Monkey, WordPress and Cvent would also be helpful.

  • Salary Level: 13.50 per hour

A full-time position in scientific project coordination and data communication (2 years, with possibility of extension) is available in Prof. Joshua Weitz’s group in the School of Biological Sciences at the Georgia Institute of Technology. This new position will help advance the group’s research efforts to understand how viruses transform human health and the fate of our planet.

The coordinator will lead efforts to manage multiple extramurally funded collaborative projects, coordinate research activities with a network of national and international collaborators, communicate data, models, and software, develop platforms and initiatives to engage with the scientific and broader community, develop and implement strategic plans for fostering team science, and support early career development as part of an interdisciplinary research group.

Desired Skills and Experience 

Preferences for applicants include: (1) PhD/MS degree in biosciences, ecology, evolutionary biology, physics, applied mathematics, computing or related area; (2) Excellent communication skills, including experience writing, proofing, and editing science communication materials, web content, and other related documents; (3) Demonstrated organizational skills, including project management experience. Candidates with graduate degrees in related fields (PhD or MS) preferred, but not required; candidates with B.S. degree and relevant professional work experience in scientific project coordination will also be considered.

Addressing Racism and COVID-19 Webinar, 6/30

New data confirm that COVID-19 is disproportionately and negatively impacting communities of color and exacerbating existing health inequities.

In the June session of Hot Topics in Practice, Matías Valenzuela, Equity Director, Public Health – Seattle & King County and Director of COVID-19 Community Mitigation and Recovery, shares his team’s efforts to uncover the root causes of these inequities and offers strategies for dismantling racism and supporting health in these times.

Matías will begin with a brief history of the health equity work at King County that has laid the foundation for their COVID-19 response. He will then discuss elements of their COVID-19 response that make it unique from previous emergency preparedness efforts, sharing new data and tools that support this work. The presentation will close with a conversation about the ways public health agencies can improve their systems and services to address structural racism and strengthen resilience in marginalized communities.

Quantitative Analysis of Clinical Research Data, Fall Course Offering

Description

This course focuses on practical application of statistics addressing clinical research questions. Analyzing data is the major emphasis of the course including examining if assumptions of the statistical analyses are being met and interpreting the findings. Course assignments and a final project focus on using statistical software and computing resources to analyze data sets from actual clinical research studies and literature with interpretation and assessment of conclusions.

Humphrey Fellowship Program Assistant, RSPH

Position Description

Provides administrative support to the Hubert Humphrey Fellowship staff and fellows. Responsible for supporting event and program planning, data collection and analysis, stakeholder communication, and maintaining program materials.

Essential Duties

  • Coordinates weekly Monday morning seminars by serving as a liaison between professional facilitators and organizations, program staff and fellows.
  • Produces associated Hubert Humphrey Fellowship Program media including but not limited to annual and weekly newsletters, weekly social media posts, annual brochure, etc.
  • Facilitates connections and collaborations with public health organizations in the U.S. including the CDC and PAHO/WHO.
  • Co-organizes spring workshop focused on global development and social justice for all Humphrey Fellows from all campuses.
  • Co-organizes other periodic events including volunteer activities, Faculty Advisor Luncheon, Noon Time Seminars, and the Closing Ceremony.
  • Coordinates evaluation of programs, seminars, and fellow/host family/adviser experience
  • Provides other administrative or programmatic support as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge and skills of Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and Publisher.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with the Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program’s components and applicable International Institute for Education (IIE) policies.
  • International experience(s)
  • Experience working with mid-career professionals from various countries and cultures around the world
