Applications Open, Epidemiology Challenge Award

Due: September 9, 2024, 5pm ET

The Hydrocephalus Association is soliciting applications for the 2024 Epidemiology Challenge Award to support one year of focused research that utilizes an existing database to reveal new insights into the incidence and/or prevalence of hydrocephalus or the health economic costs of hydrocephalus. Outcomes from the award will contribute directly to advocacy and education initiatives of the Association and serve as a building block toward a comprehensive understanding of the epidemiology and economic burden of hydrocephalus in the very near future.

The Epidemiology Challenge Award will support an advanced trainee or scientist with strong methods expertise in epidemiology and/or biostatistics to conduct a focused project on the incidence and/or prevalence of hydrocephalus using a pre-existing dataset.

Applications Open, Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists APHIF Fellowship

What is APHIF? 

APHIF is a training program where recent graduates and early career professionals work in a state or local health agency under the guidance of two experienced mentors. Fellows are matched to a host site with demonstrated capacity to provide technical training, research opportunities, and opportunities for experience in the application of public health informatics in a practical setting.  

Who is eligible to apply?   

This fellowship is open to individuals who hold a master’s or doctoral degree from an accredited academic institution. Those who will graduate this summer are welcome to apply. As a training program, this fellowship is particularly appropriate for recent graduates and early career professionals. Applicants should have demonstrated knowledge or experience with public health informatics, data science, or a related field.  Fellows must be US citizens or permanent residents. Individuals requiring a visa are not eligible for this program. Fellows receive a stipend, professional development funds, and relocation support. Fellowship placements are limited term (12 months), full time roles.  

Applications will open on Friday, May 17th. All completed applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. Successful candidates will start work at their placements before the end of this summer. If you are interested in reproductive, pediatric, or perinatal epidemiology, please consider joining the Society for Pediatric and Perinatal Epidemiologic Research’s (SPER’s) Inaugural Virtual Meeting.  Two of the featured speakers are Emory PhD students and EPI alumni, Meredith Dixon and Amanda Dorsey, in addition to EPI faculty member Penny Howards as the president!

Surveillance Epidemiologist, School of Medicine, Infectious Diseases

The Surveillance Epidemiologist will support Emerging Infections Program (EIP) surveillance programs and special studies in the School of Medicine at Emory University to ensure high-quality epidemiologic data acquisition and quality procedures. The Position will be assigned to one or more specific EIP program areas but will also provide general EIP support.

JOB DESCRIPTION: 

  • Collects epidemiologic data through laboratory audit and medical record reviews in multiple health system.
  • Enters, manages, and cleans surveillance and study data in databases such as REDCap, SendSS, Access, etc.
  • Analyzes data in software packages such as SAS or R.
  • Produces data, reports, and presentations for external partners, as well as for internal use.
  • Retrieves, transports, and accessions packaged laboratory specimens.
  • Communicates with medical facilities to collect and verify epidemiologic information and specimens.
  • Conducts telephone interviews and supports special studies. Performs related program area responsibilities as required.
  • May act as lead on a specific study activity.
  • Complies with all ethical guidelines for scientific and human subjects research.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in Public Health or related field from an accredited school.
  • Epidemiology specialty preferred OR Bachelor’s degree in a field related to the program with two or more years of direct experience conducting infectious disease surveillance and epidemiologic analyses.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong verbal/written communication skills required.
  • Medical record experience preferred.
  • Database management experience preferred.
  • SAS and/or R experience preferred.
  • Power BI experience desirable.
  • EIP or health department experience desirable.

Internship, Division of Maternal and Child Health Workforce Development

We are seeking applications from qualified candidates for our 2024 Fall (September – December) internship.

The Division of Maternal and Child Health Workforce Development (DMCHWD) Internship, based in the Health Resources and Services Administration’s Maternal and Child Health Bureau, is designed to educate, engage, and support future leaders in Maternal and Child Health (MCH).

DMCHWD accepts applications from highly motivated graduate students in good standing at schools or programs of public health and other health-related training and education programs in the United States.

If accepted as a DMCHWD intern, you will be required to:

  1. Travel to the HRSA headquarters or HRSA regional offices 1-2 times at your own expense to complete the onboarding process for the internship
  2. Complete a Student Volunteer Service Agreements form, which requires a signature from a representative at your academic institution

Epidemiology Internship, Oracle US

Job Description


This is a remote opportunity based in the US with up to 20 hours per week during the semester, up to 40 hours in the summer if not taking coursework. The position is available beginning June 2024 for 6 months.

 The individual will conduct literature searches for population-based incidence and prevalence across US, UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, China, and Japan.  They will assess article methodology for use in development of forecasted epidemiology at the country level.  Some modeling is necessary.  The individual will work with a mentor on specific assigned indications.  Indications may be large chronic conditions and / or more rare disease areas.

Responsibilities

Necessary Skills/ Experience: 

  • Current MPH students studying Epidemiology with at least 1 year of degree program completed.
  • Strong research background with experience conducting literature reviews. 
  • Working knowledge of quantitative epidemiological and scientific analysis. 
  • Working knowledge of statistical analysis software tools (e.g. SAS, SPSS or STATA), as well as Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

US: Hiring Range: from $18.99 to $53.00 per hour; from $39,500 to $110,240 per annum.
