Every Proposal Needs a PI

In order for the Compass system to function properly, every proposal and award in the Compass system needs to have a single PI identified. If your proposal is for an individual fellowship, the fellow who will be named on the award should be listed as the PI. The fellow’s sponsor should be listed with a role of Sponsor/Mentor.

If your proposal is for an Intergovernmental Personnel Agreement (IPA), the IPA recipient should be identified as the PI. If the IPA is sponsored, the sponsor should be given the role of Sponsor/Mentor. If you are submitting a proposal under the NIH’s Multiple PI policy, the contact PI should be listed as PI in the Compass system, All other PI’s should be given the role of Multiple PI.

Just remember – every proposal needs a PI!
