Chemical Safety Training Now in ELMS

The “DAR SOM Chemical Safety for Rodent Users” training can now be completed online through ELMS! This training must be completed prior to receiving EHSO Chemicals in Animals approval.

Who is required to complete this training?

  • This training applies to researchers whose animals are housed in the Division of Animal Resources (DAR). Researchers with animals housed at Yerkes will continue to complete the training provided by Yerkes.
  • Personnel listed as administering hazardous chemicals above Level 1 to animals or handling animals following the administration of hazardous chemicals above Level 1 must complete this training.
  • Common agents above a Level 1 include:
    • 5-Ethynyl-2′-deoxyuridine (EdU)
    • Bromodeoxyuridine (BrdU)
    • Cisplatin
    • Cyclophosphamide
    • Doxorubicin
    • Fluorouracil (5-FU)
    • MPTP
    • Tamoxifen

How do I complete the training?

How often do I need to take the training?

There is a refresher course, “DAR SOM Chemical Safety Refresher for Rodent Users” (course code 265032), that must be taken every 3 years after the initial course has been completed.
