Her research interests include the role both genetics and mood disorders play in substance misuse and addiction. She is currently working on research under the mentorship of Kathleen Martin on characterizing sex-specific relationships between NMPOU (non-medical prescription opioid use) and internalizing behaviors.

Sophia Gomez is a junior at Emory University, majoring in Psychology and minoring in Global Health on the Pre-Med Track. Her research interests include the epigenetic influences of substance abuse and the intersection of mental health disparities in underrepresented communities. She is currently working under Natalia Jaume-Feliciosi to investigate how stressors interact with the epigenome and may manifest an increased risk for psychopathology.
Sanchi Subiah is a biology major and anthropology minor at Emory University (’25). Currently, she is helping Dr. Vipavee Niemsiri as an undergraduate research assistant in the BGA lab. During her time in the lab, Sanchi works on a literature review project that investigates substance use disorders through the application of the iPSC model. As a research assistant, Sanchi is responsible for screening and reviewing scientific papers, organizing numerical data in Excel as well as creating codes for data management. In her free time, Sanchi enjoys reading historical fiction novels, exercising and finding new cafés.
