Emory has recently acquired the personal papers of Kathleen Cleaver, the Black Panther Party member, activist, and longtime faculty member at the Emory University School of Law. The archive will be housed at the Stuart A. Rose Manuscript, Archives, and Rare Book Library. Dr. Carol Anderson described the acquisition as “incredible” and anticipated that “We will learn so much from Kathleen Cleaver’s papers.” Cleaver’s archive, Anderson continued, “will help us understand the role of women in a movement and movement-building and in international freedom struggles.” Cleaver’s was one of the last major collections secured by the late Pellom McDaniels III, curator of African American collections at the Rose Library.
