The Georgia Environmental Protection Division (GA-EPD) conducted a Hazardous Waste Management Program inspection of the Emory campus on Wednesday December 2, 2015. Points of waste generation were evaluated that included laboratories, Campus Services, and Healthcare Operations.
The inspector focused on container management (integrity, label, and closure) and how the waste was disposed of after the containers were full. There were no violations observed by the inspector and everyone interviewed was knowledgeable and collegial.
It should be noted that these inspections are always unannounced, so there is no opportunity to prepare for inspections. The diligence of those inspected to keep their areas in compliance and in an audit ready state is very much appreciated.
