Learn more about Dr. Barfield

Dr. Whitney Barfield received her Ph.D. in Microbiology from Howard University, where she led and supported interdisciplinary clinical research projects that examined genetic factors contributing to health disparities in underrepresented adolescent populations. Before joining our lab, she worked at the National Institutes of Health in implementation research, supporting strategies to accelerate the integration of evidence-based genomic discoveries into clinical and public health settings. Dr. Barfield is excited about her new role, serving as a postdoctoral fellow and coordinator for the Mapme Program. She envisions a robust experience, exploring her combined interests in behavioral and genetic research, and hopes to expand her knowledge-base in mental health and substance abuse research to improve precision prevention for diverse populations.
