The LITS Wellness Committee recently hosted a presentation by Grant Bradley from the Environmental Health & Safety Office (EHSO). Held in the Jones Room in the Woodruff Library, Grant discussed proper lifting techniques, air quality, posture, and work safety.

Grant told the audience that EHSO offers three main services: waste collection, accident reporting, and spill response. The department also offers safety training to employees. The listing of their training can be found by searching for EHSO in the Employee Learning Management Systems (ELMS).

Employees should contact the EHSO office if they see a biohazard or waste that should be removed. This includes things like hazardous spills, large-scale discarded trash, and even mold, for which they will perform an indoor air quality assessment.

Step wrong on this sidewalk and you might break more than just your mama’s back!

Grant’s office also does accident investigations at Emory and will do an ergonomic assessment in the event of a workplace injury. They want employees to report all accidents and even near misses. “Even if you trip on the sidewalk,” says Grant, “we can investigate the area to see if the sidewalk is cracked.”

EHSO uses the LiveSafe app, found for free in most app stores. This app allows staff to quickly report hazards on campus. Once you download the app, you will need to follow the instructions to configure it for Emory’s campus.
